Reversible Mallet

Both ends of this distinctive bone-shaped mallet are hard or very hard.
In certain familiar passages in the concert literature, this "bone" can be played with great control despite its relatively high mass, which gives the desired volume.

The shaft is turned from maple, the bare wooden head from the more robust hornbeam. The leather side is rounded off tonally with a thin layer of felt under the leather.
